When it comes to visiting the city of Taj, one of the best times to travel is during the grand cultural festival Taj Mahotsav (Taj Festival). This great cultural carnival is usually held in the month of February every year at Shilpgram, near Taj mahal. It is one of the spectacular festivals in India organized by Uttar Pradesh tourism. For 10 days there is a sheer celebration of India's rich art &craft, culture, music & dance, cuisines and much more. The Taj Mahostav is inspired by the memories of the great Mughal emperors and their nawabi sytle which was prevalent in Uttar Pradesh in 18th and 19th centuries.
The festival commences with grand road procession with decorated elephants and camels, drum beaters, folk artists and master craftsmen. Various renowned artists from all over the country come here to perform in front of the epitome of monument of everlasting love, the seventh wonder of the world, the Taj Mahal .
For 10 uninterrupted days, one can experience majestic and magnetic performances of various folk and classical artists from every walk of life like Bundelkhand 'Nautanki' (Drama), 'Sapera' dance of Rajasthan, Lavani of Maharashtra., Kathakali of Kerala and other folk dance. Beside these handmade carpets of Badohi, the blue pottery of Khurja, the Chikan work of Lucknow, the silk of Benaras and exquisite crafts like wood carvings from Saharanpur, brass and other metalware from Moradabad, are also exhibited during the Taj festival
